Sooty Shearwater by Mike Danzenbaker

Half Moon Bay, California

Map
Departure Point: Huck Finn Sportfishing, 15 Johnson Pier, Pillar Point Harbor, Half Moon Bay
Destination: Varies: continental shelf break; possibly Guide Seamount
Trip length: Varies: 6-10 hours
Comments: Two trips in 2009 had astounding results. Short-tailed Albatross, Laysan Albatross, Black-footed Albatross; White-chinned Petrel (first North American sighting); Sooty, Buller's, Black-vented, Pink-footed, Flesh-footed Shearwaters; South Polar Skua, and more. All of the seabirds typical of fall should be found on these trips. This area has a strong potential to turn up flocks of storm-petrels, as well as a possible "echo" of Cook's Petrels which were found in abundance on Shearwater Journeys' fall 2009 trips. Expected to sell out early, as it is a new and desirable destination.
